Beaver Creek Ranked #5 overall in 2010 Resort Guide

The Beav cracks the Top 5 in this year’s Ski Magazine resort guide, so it’s not surprising when our guests are pleased with their stay’s with us. Enjoying a world-class resort with excellent terrain for all levels (“plenty of blues, and enough blacks to keep me interested,” says one guest) without a lot of company is a big deal. “Never
overcrowded, even on weekends,” says another. It’s clear that last season’s visitors noticed the resort’s renewed focus on kids: Family Programs ranks No. 3, up from No. 10 last year. Thank The Ranch—the new children’s center—and last season’s addition of the Buckaroo Express kids’ gondola for that. This season, there’s a new tubing hill just below the children’s center. Lodging (No. 5) continues to impress. Dining, both on-mountain (No. 4) and in the village (No. 7), rack up points. And the breadth of the terrain continues to please. “I was surprised by the challenging skiing at a resort known for pampering,” a guest says. “More trees, steeps and bumps than it’s given credit for,” adds another.  Stone Creek Chutes, the series of steeps and treed terrain that opened in 2007 on the resort’s eastern perimeter. Check out the resort’s new website, beavercreekextreme.com, which highlights the mountain’s most treacherous terrain. Top 10 scores for Grooming (No. 2), Service (No. 3) and Lifts (No. 9) all jibe with the Beav’s goal of giving visitors what they want before they even know they want it—like the warm chocolate chip cookies served in the village after 3 p.m., or the Greeters and Seaters, who’ll find your family a lunch table at Spruce Saddle Lodge.

The Black Crowes coming to Beaver Creek

The Black Crowes are a blues-oriented hard rock jam band that has sold over 20 million albums. They were hailed by Melody Maker as “The Most Rock ‘n’ Roll Rock ‘n’ Roll Band in the World.” In 1990, the readers of Rolling Stone named it the ‘Best New American Band.’ The band has toured with acts such as Aerosmith, Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, The Who, AC/DC, The Grateful Dead and Neil Young.

At the time of their 1990 debut, the kind of rock n’ roll the Black Crowes specialized in was sorely out of style. Only Guns N’ Roses came close to approximating a vintage Stones-style raunch, but they were too angry and jagged to pull it off completely. The Black Crowes, on the other hand, replicated that Stonesy swagger and Faces boogie perfectly. Vocalist Chris Robinson appropriated the sound and style of vintage Rod Stewart, while brother Rich Robinson fused Keith Richards’ lean guitar attack with Ron Wood’s messy rhythmic sense. At their best, the Black Crowes echoed classic rock without slavishly imitating their influences, and the band’s nostalgic sound helped foster a long, popular career.
They appear in their Vilar Center debut on Saturday, November 14 in “An Evening with the Black Crowes.” Their latest studio release, Before the Frost/Until the Freeze will be released on September 1, 2009.

American Idol David Cook in Beaver Creek on June 28

Millions of people around the country fell in love with rock singer David Cook while watching him make other people’s songs his own week after week on the seventh season of “American Idol.” Cook won the competition handily thanks to viewers connecting with his rich, unfettered voice and passionately intense performances, not to mention his down-to-earth Midwestern charm. Now, with the release of his self-titled major-label debut, this gifted 25-year-old is eager to show those fans what he can do when he’s in the driver’s seat.

“I went on Idol with a five-card hand and showed three of my cards,” Cook says. “Now it’s time to put down the other two. There’s a lot I haven’t shown the world, just as far as who I am and what I’m about. I have several layers as an artist and those layers are out there on this record. I don’t see myself ever writing an autobiography; I’m just going to let the music speak for itself.”

And it does — loud and clear. David Cook is a statement-making album, filled with bold, keenly felt songs that showcase Cook’s powerful vocal chops and considerable songwriting talent, as well as the versatility that made him a star on Idol. Special guest, acclaimed singer/songwriter Ryan Star, opens the show.

TICKETS:
TICKETS ON SALE MONDAY, JUNE 1 at 11AM MST.

Come stay with us, and you can take a 2-minute stroll from our condo to the Vilar Center to see David Cook.
